Kavita is an Indian-American screenwriter, director, producer, and editor based in Brooklyn, NY. 

Originally from a small town in South Texas, Kavita’s lifelong curiosity about human contradictions has shaped her penchant for storytelling. Her work focuses on the evolving narrative of American identity, the multifaceted nature of love, and the complexities of gender dynamics.

Parekh won the Makower Post Production Grant for her film "Two Tickets to Mars,” and was nominated as Best Cinematic Director at New York’s Blackbird Film Festival. After screening the film at Austin Film Festival, she returned to serve as a judge for the 2022 Austin Film Festival narrative submissions. 

In 2020 she co-founded the production company Big Cow Studio where she and her partners create high quality promotional and educational content that reaches global audiences. 

Alongside her independent projects, she works as a script supervisor under IATSE Local 161. Most notably, she supervised the Greg Jardin-directed thriller It’s What’s Inside, which premiered on Netflix in November 2024.

As a creative consultant, Kavita regularly collaborates with writers, directors, and editors in various stages of production, offering her sensibilities to refine storytelling across mediums. 

In February 2025, she is set to direct Ponderosa, a short film written by Sophie Bennett. 

She holds a BFA from NYU Tisch School of the Arts.
